Our Class Saint
Our Class 2 Saint is St Carlo Acutis. Carlo was an ordinary boy who loved computers, football and playing. He used his computer skills to share his love of Jesus with others and made websites to help people learn about God and the miracles he had performed. Carlo went to mass every day and always tried to see the best in everyone, always treating them with kindness. He is our class saint because he shows us that even young people can do great things for God by using their talents, being kind and helping others. In our class, we will try to be just like Carlo by being kind, sharing our gifts and talents, and living like Jesus wants us to.

English
This term, Class 2 will work to develop our writing skills by looking at a number of texts from our Read Write Inc Phonics scheme. We will learn how to write sentences from dictations and how to build on basic sentences by improving vocabulary and description to make them even better.
During Guided Reading, we will develop our comprehension skills to help us understand new vocabulary, answer who, what, where, when, why and how questions and sequencing texts in order. We will do this through looking at a range of stories and texts, including:

Maths
This half term, Class 2 will be developing maths skills in the following areas:
Place Value
Understanding how numbers are made of tens and ones, and how to order and compare them.
Addition and Subtraction
Learning to add and take away numbers using different methods, and solve problems with them.
Shape
Learning the names and properties of 2D and 3D shapes, and how to describe and sort them.

Religious Education
Our current topic is 'Creation and Covenant'. In this unit, we will learn about some of the different parts of the Bible and hear the story of Noah. We will work to understand the covenant (promise) God made with Noah and all creatures.
Our next topic is 'Prophecy and Promise' where we will think about the Holy Spirit and when Jesus was young, building on our learning from Year 1.
Spelling
Class 2 will begin using a spelling scheme called Read, Write Inc. spelling. Children will take part in daily 15 minute spelling sessions, each week focusing on a new spelling rule. The idea of the spelling scheme is to teach spelling for writing, not for spelling tests.
Science
This term, Class 2 will be looking at why it is important to keep our bodies healthy. We will find out who Louis Pasteur was and why he's a significant person, as well as learning about balanced diets and exercise and why children often look like their parents.
Geography
Class 2 will be looking at the knowledge and skills needed to answer the question: How can we learn about our world?
Children will be able to identify the 7 continents of the world, our largest oceans, the features of Africa, whether land is floating on the sea and if countries would exist without inhabitants.
History
Our history topic this term is The Great Fire of London. Children will look at the question 'What lessons have we learnt from the Great Fire of London?' Year 2 will learn about the effects of the fire on the daily lives of the people of London and debate different theories about the fire.
Physical Education
Our PE topic this half-term is dance.
PE is on a Friday. Please ensure children arrive wearing a suitable PE kit.
PSHE
Children will be learning about themselves and their relationships.
Art
This term’s focus is the artist Georgia O'Keeffe. We will look at the techniques she used to paint flowers and try to copy that in our own work.
DT
This term we will be looking at frame structures with the aim of building our own bridge.
Music
We have singing lessons with Mr Whitmore every Tuesday morning.
Phonics Books
Our chosen scheme of learning is called Read, Write, Inc. Your child learns following a repetitive reading strategy that is required by the Department for Education. Each day your child reads and is read to within this scheme. Each book lasts for three days and then it is changed. The changeover day is clearly displayed on the ‘Class 2 Noticeboard’ – please check this for any changes. Please note this is only for children who are continuing with the phonics scheme in Year 2 so will not be every child in class.
Library
Our school has a fantastic library. We aim to take the children every Friday afternoon. When your child has read the library book, please ensure they return it so it can be exchanged for another one.
